If we have listened to music for any length of time, we are probably already aware of a few of its most important notes. Music is so much more than notes on a musical sheet. There is so much more to music than music notes.
Most of us are familiar with the three major musical notes: E flat, A flat, and G flat. The E flat is a major scale note that means “I want you to stop doing something”. The A flat is a minor scale note that is very close to “I want you to stop doing something”, and the G flat is the interval between the two. The music notes are essential to our lives.
Our hearts beat faster when we listen to music, but the same thing happens when we listen to a song, or read a poem. The music we listen to affects our brains, and it also changes our behavior. For example, I have a friend who loves opera. She takes opera tickets almost every weekend, and she has told me that she can’t get out of her mind the thought of being in an opera.
When I was thinking about this idea, I started playing with the idea of a musical quote, and I was surprised to find that I could use the G flat as the interval between the notes of the notes. I was just about to say, “but what happens when music gets too loud?” but I didn’t really get the point. The concept of music notes is central to music, and it also becomes very important to our lives when we listen to it.
Our brains are so intricately wired that our internal clocks and our external environments are all too often synchronized. If you’re reading this and you’ve been keeping an eye on the clock (and you should be), you’ve probably been surprised at how many of the things you’ve been doing have been at regular intervals.
Well, think about it this way. Our brains are very good at keeping time. If we get up and turn our lights on at the same time, well be pretty much certain that it wasnt a bad dream. If we get up and turn on the radio at the same time, well be pretty certain that it wasnt a car accident.
This is because our brains operate much like a clock. If we want to know when something has happened, we turn our lights on when something is due to happen. If we want to know when something is not yet due to happen, we turn our lights off the instant something isnt. So if a car accident hasnt already occurred, it will be very difficult for you to determine that it hasnt.
The point here is that the world is a very small part of our heads. Our bodies are a much more complex part of our brains. Our brains are more connected to our senses, so we can use them to sense things. Our brains are also more connected to the physical world, so when something is not really happening we can still make sense out of it.
This is why we make sense of stuff. We can see that a car accident is not occurring, we can tell that the phone hasnt been ringing, we can tell that the keys in the car arent in the ignition. We can also hear that the sound of an approaching car isnt coming from a car, we can hear the crunching of tires, and we can take in the fact that the smoke isnt coming from a fire.
If the world is not coming together in the way we think it should, then it can be tough to understand what is going on. If we aren’t paying attention to what is happening, we don’t have any clue as to why. If we are not paying attention to what is happening, then we can’t see a way to stop it. Not only can we not stop it, we can’t stop ourselves.
